Provincial Medical Coverage

for residents of British Columbia

Insurance and coverage

  • All BC residents must enroll in the Medical Services Plan (MSP) to receive a Personal Health Number (PHN). This can be applied for here: How to Apply - Province of British Columbia (gov.bc.ca). Visitors from other provinces (except Quebec) who hold valid coverage may use their existing provincial health care plans. Interprovincial coverage is quite comprehensive but will not cover all items.

  • Non-residents will be charged $75-$150 for each consultation.

  • For individuals who have private insurance or have extended health, an invoice will be issued in the patient's name upon full payment of service with which they can use to apply for reimbursement.

  • Coverage varies from plan to plan. Patients are advised to clarify the scope of coverage from their insurance company before obtaining medical service.
